Renee McLeod-Sordjan, NEF Scholarship winner, is a native New Yorker and presently attends Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.   She is studying for a PhD in nursing. Her road to a successful nursing career includes a BSN from Pace University in Respiratory Therapy followed by a BSN in 1986, an MSN in 1996 and a DNP in 2011. She aspires to support ethnic diversity among students and faculty through scholarship, service, and culturally competent practice. As a doctoral student her scholarship is focusing on assessing health literacy in the Hispanic populations suffering from chronic diseases. She has publications in nursing texts related to health literacy and patient-centered practice.  She has also written articles for the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Journal of Nurse Practitioners.
