Other Nursing Leaders who have included Nurses Educational Funds in their estate plans include:
Rita Reis Wieczorek:
Dr. Rita Reis Wieczorek had a dual purpose when she initiated the creation of the Thelma Schorr Society.
- Establish a means of recognizing a national nursing leader –
Thelma Schorr was editor and chief of the American Nursing Journal then publisher and president of the company. Thelma Schorr went on to direct the publication of multiple nursing journals and pioneered the inclusion of continuing education articles. Ms Schorr has been a tireless advocate for nurses and was instrumental in establishing a national nursing voice.
- Create a means of ongoing recognition and support for graduate nursing scholarship.
Dr. Wieczorek accomplished these 2 significant goals by making a bequest in her will for $5,000.00 to the Thelma Schorr Society.
Joining the Thelma Schorr Society is only one of the many ways individuals and institutions can donate to the Nurses Educational Funds to foster and support graduate nursing education. (See "Specific Bequests" on the NEF web site)
Nursing leaders, friends and benefactors of nurses can also take a leadership position to create graduate education nursing scholarship donations. Making a bequest in one's will is an excellent venue to promote graduate nursing education.
Dr. Wieczorek noted: "I remembered NEF because of the relationship I have with the organization- it is also a painless way of donating to a charity that is important to me."
