Njoki Ng'Anga


Njoki Ng’anga is using her Elizabeth Carnegie scholarship towards a PhD degree at Columbia University. She is also a pre-doctoral fellow at the School of Nursing’s Center for Children and Families. She obtained her MSc in Health Systems from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Master of Philosophy from Columbia. She has worked extensively in Niger, Rwanda and Vietnam caring for women suffering from obstetric fistula, a debilitating birth injury. While in Niger, she implemented the Dreyfus Health Foundation’s Problem Solving for Better Health Nursing methodology to boost the capacity of Nigerien nurses caring for fistula patients. Njoki is a clinical nurse at Hackensack University Medical Center where she specializes in inpatient obstetrics and high risk antepartum. After completing her studies, Njoki plans to do extensive research on improving access to proper obstetric care for women in developing countries.
