Jason K. Blomquist

Jason K. Blomquist is honored to accept the NEF Dr. Charles Hamlin Scholarship, a recognition that supports Jason's pursuit of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a focus on Executive Leadership at Boise State University. He began his studies in Fall 2022 and expects to graduate in 2025. This scholarship enables him to further his contributions to nursing education, leadership, and research.

His academic career began with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and History from Oberlin College in 2001. As a second career, he entered the nursing profession, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Idaho State University in 2011. His commitment to advancing his leadership capabilities led him to obtain a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2018, where he focused on the application of telehealth technology in mental healthcare.

Blomquist's journey into nursing was motivated by a desire to give to his community and develop nurse leaders. The decision to pursue a DNP in Executive Leadership from Boise State University was fueled by his ambition to influence healthcare policies and systems from an academic perspective. This program equips him with the skills to address complex challenges and to investigate and influence contemporary challenges in nursing. His doctoral project focuses on addressing organizational factors contributing to the underreporting of workplace violence in nursing, reflecting his lived experience and dedication to overcoming the systemic, physical, and emotional burdens leading to nurse burnout.

Pursuing a diverse professional path, Blomquist has focused on leadership, empowerment of fellow nurses, and the interface with technology and nursing. Currently, he serves as Assistant Professor at Boise State University School of Nursing, integrating innovative teaching methods and technologies into the curriculum. His clinical experience includes working as a Registered Nurse at St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho, where he has been involved in both direct patient care and leadership roles, including Director of Nursing Telehealth and Program Manager for TeleICU. Blomquist also serves on the board of directors for the American Nurses Association- Idaho, and his local Sigma Theta Tau International chapter. His current academic scholarship is investigating the impact and influence of generative AI on nursing, with contributions to both higher education and local healthcare systems.

In the future, Blomquist plans to utilize his DNP to drive both academic and practice initiatives that integrate advanced technologies in nursing education and practice. Additionally, he desires to use his leadership position to advocate for nurse agency, development, and resilience in an evolving healthcare landscape. This NEF Scholarship validates the effort and vision Blomquist has for his career, reinforcing his dedication to advancing the nursing profession and making a lasting impact on healthcare. With the support of the Dr. Charles Hamlin Scholarship, Blomquist is poised to make significant contributions to the field of nursing, advancing leadership, education, and practice.
