Isuan Iriabho, MSN, CRNP, is the recipient of the Margaret L. McClure Scholarship. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in French in Nigeria in 2012 but her career path took a transformative turn after a prolonged postpartum hospitalization. During this challenging time, Isuan was deeply moved by the compassionate care she received from the nursing staff, a moment that sparked her interest in the nursing field and set her on a new path.
Isuan's nursing career, which began in 2014 as a nursing assistant, is a testament to her unwavering dedication to her patients. She obtained an associate degree in nursing from Jefferson State Community College. After graduation, she started working in the medical-surgical unit, where she developed a growing passion for caring for the geriatric population.
She completed a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2019, further honing her skills and equipping her to help patients successfully manage chronic conditions and prevent repeat hospitalizations from complications.
A diverse range of experiences marks Isuan's professional journey. She has worked as an advanced practice nurse in various settings, including outpatient, inpatient, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and currently in a home-based setting. Her clinical practice was complemented by her role as an adjunct faculty at a local community college in Alabama.
She has also contributed to the healthcare industry in an advisory capacity for a pharmaceutical company. Isuan's commitment to her profession is further demonstrated by her active membership in the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners Association and the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama.
Her commitment to education and patient care is a testament to her compassion and dedication, which led her to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a certificate in nursing education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. With a DNP degree, she can take on leadership roles and spearhead quality improvement initiatives to close gaps in care, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care. The DNP degree will also equip her to tackle healthcare disparities by addressing social determinants of health, advocating for underserved populations, and implementing programs to improve access to care. A nursing education certificate will also open opportunities for academic leadership roles.
Isuan envisions assuming a dual role in the clinical and academic arena. She aspires to contribute to developing nursing curricula by integrating cutting-edge research and evidence-based practices, preparing the next generation of nurses to meet evolving healthcare demands and implementing and overseeing innovative quality improvement initiatives within healthcare settings.
The NEF Margaret L. McClure Scholarship is a beacon in Isuan's academic and professional journey, providing financial support and recognition to help her achieve her goals.
