Donna Tubb, APRN, FNP-C, was recognized with the prestigious Terry Fulmer Scholarship, a testament to her unwavering dedication to geriatric nursing and the long-term care of the elderly. Currently, she is embarking on a transformative journey, pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the esteemed University of South Alabama College of Nursing. Prior to this, Donna earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013 and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi in 2016.

Donna's nursing career has been defined by her passion and commitment to making a difference in her community. Her interests lie in preventive and primary care. Donna deeply understands healthcare disparities among aging rural populations which is guiding her current clinical practice. The direct impact of holistic care for patients and their families is evident in her work. Donna has also utilized telemedicine to bridge the gap and improve patient care for those with limited access to healthcare, showcasing her adaptability and innovative use of technology.

Committed to taking a proactive approach to teaching, she is a full-time faculty member at Texas Woman’s University in the MSN program. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and learning from her students. Education has been incredibly fulfilling for her, and she has come to realize that the best way to influence the future of nursing is by setting a positive example through pursuing her DNP.

Her work in nursing education has allowed her to expand her impact by teaching and learning from future nurses. She has learned to integrate patients' experiences and values into the translation of research into practice. As she pursues her DNP, she is preparing to create new nursing knowledge to address gaps in care and improve health outcomes for the rural aging population. Receiving the Terry Fulmer Scholarship will help Donna create a more equitable healthcare system, improve access to primary preventative care, and advocate for the healthcare rights of the rural aging population.
