Dr. Nina Harvey currently serves in a leadership role at the Jefferson County Department of Health in Birmingham, Alabama. There she oversees daily operations in the Disease Control clinic area.
Nina is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her MSN from Samford University and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Alabama. Nina completed training experiences at Cincinnati Children's Hospital while serving as a clinic leader in the City of Cincinnati Health Department- Division of School and Adolescent Health. There she managed the healthcare needs of middle and high school students.
Nina is an experienced clinician and educator. Throughout the years she has served as both an Assistant Professor and Assistant Clinical Professor, mentoring nurses pursuing advanced education at the University of Alabama and Samford University. Her areas of expertise include advanced pathophysiology, population health, and public policy. Nina has served as a committee chair for Doctor of Nursing Practice students focusing on public and community health projects.
Dr. Harvey is a faculty member of the Southeast STD/HIV Prevention Training Center. Her current scholarship interests include equity-informed approaches to prevention of sexually transmitted infections, risk reduction, and adolescent health promotion. She has served as a delegate to the Alabama State Nurses Association and is the current president for the Mu Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a professional nursing organization.
