My career goals have always involved working with and helping others. Since a career in nursing involves serving a community, socializing, helping others, and assisting people in reaching optimal health, it seemed a natural fit. I was able to fulfill my goal in 2004, when I graduated with a Bachelor's in Science in Nursing from California State University, Sacramento. Working as a nurse has given me an immense sense of pleasure and fulfillment to help empower people to strive for improved health, recover and thrive after a critical illness, and sharing my passion for nursing with my colleagues. The more I work with people, the more certain I am that each person I meet has a story to tell and has something to teach me.

Although I have worked as an inpatient nurse at Kaiser Permanente Medical Intensive Care Unit since graduation, I have always felt that my true passion lies with preventing health problems before they manifest. Working in public health allows for one to provide the education and skills to implement in wellness care as opposed to sick care that is administered in the acute care setting.

My life experience has been leading me toward the goal of becoming a Community Health Nurse since my early years. Since I was young, I have traveled extensively and enjoyed encountering cultures and customs vastly different from my own. In high school I went to Australia as an American Field Service exchange student. As an adult I have been to Europe, Australia, South America, and Southeast Asia and continue to seek out new experiences.

I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Nurses Educational Funds Scholarship. Thanks to the generous support I will be able to continue my education in the Masters of Nursing Program at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). I am currently working toward getting my Clinical Nurse Specialist in Community Health and International Nursing. I offer my sincerest thanks for your generosity and support to current and future health care professionals who will surely make a difference.
