Jasmine Perkins

Jasmine Perkins is the recipient of the Estelle Massey Osborne Scholarship which is awarded to students interested in clinical nursing education. Miss. Perkins currently attends Texas Woman’s University and is pursuing a double masters in Nursing Education and Interprofessional Health Informatics. She has received undergraduate general education and nursing degrees from Tarrant County College, Lonestar College and Sam Houston State University. In 2018, she obtained a Health Informatics post-baccalaureate certificate with an emphasis in Interprofessional Collaboration from Texas Woman’s University.

Jasmine began her nursing career in Houston, TX, working as a Registered Nurse at the inpatient cardiac care center. Realizing her passion and the impact of clinical education, she transitioned into the academic setting and currently works as a Student Learning Specialist. In this role, she provides mentoring and coaching in addition to instruction, remediation, and evaluation in didactic and clinical simulated learning settings for undergraduate nursing students.

With a strong passion for being actively involved in her community, Jasmine volunteers with various community organizations; two in particular being the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. She helps educate communities with strategies to prevent and manage chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, stroke, hypertension and diabetes. Her personal experiences with a lack of access to healthcare services inspired her to serve as a nursing and healthcare advocate, positions that both directly and indirectly impact healthcare. She currently serves on the Texas Nurses Association District 9 as a delegate and as an Advocacy Leader for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN)’s Graduate Nursing Student Association.

Miss Jazz, as she’s known by her students, is actively engaged in various research and quality improvement projects that impact both academic and healthcare systems. Motivated by Hurricane Harvey, she aims to improve health outcomes and access to care through innovative approaches and collaborative partnerships. One of these innovative approaches in particular is the use of Telehealth, which involves remote patient monitoring and mobile health applications to provide individualized and engaging patient centered care. These approaches help promote healthy lifestyles, facilitate continuity of care, and reduce hospitalizations.

Jasmine has presented at numerous conferences and showcases in Texas. Her most recent works discuss the use of data to support nonprofit organizations and how to develop a curriculum to prepare clinicians who deliver care via virtual settings. With her educational background, she hopes to continue to improve health outcomes by developing and preparing the next generation of nurses and care providers with the knowledge and tools needed to provide holistic care for patients, families and communities across the globe.
